St. Mark's Youth Group

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church provides programming for youth in Grades 8 - 12.
The intent of the group is to foster a Christian community for the youth, through the building of relationships that strengthens both their commitment to the church and their faith. Throughout the year there are a variety of age appropriate activities for youth in the areas of:
  • Fellowship & Fun
  • Worship
  • Service
  • Faith Development
The leadership team is made up of young adults from St. Mark’s congregation. Shayne Pfeifer, the part time youth leader is assisted by volunteers Travis, Amanda, Matthew, Sarah and Amy.
All leaders over 18 years of age are required to have valid Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks.

Youth leaders make an effort to communicate with members of the group in whatever way best fits the group. Parents are encouraged to watch for/respond to emails, read weekly bulletins and the Church’s Re:Mark’s newsletters. Youth also have a dedicated bulletin board in the parish hall on which relevant notices are posted.

The Youth group gets together in 3 ways consistently each month:
  1. approximately once a month for a ‘fellowship & fun” event, usually held on a weekend.*
  2. on the first Sunday evening of the month for the MNO Synod Youth service which is held at various churches in Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
  3. following Sunday morning services at St. Mark’s, in the youth room for ‘donut time’, an informal chance to catch up on each other’s lives, talk about current events or whatever comes up and, of course, eat donuts.
Additional youth get-togethers include Youth-led worship services, retreats, and National Gathering.
The St. Mark’s youth group participates in the annual MNO synod Thanksgiving youth retreat held at Luther Village. In February, hey attend the MNO Synod winter youth retreat held in a rural church on Louis Riel weekend. Every two years they attend the Canadian Lutheran and Anglican Youth (CLAY) Gathering, which in 2018 is being held in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Opportunities exist for youth and their families if they are interested in participating in a variety of fundraising activities to to support Youth Ministries at St. Mark's.
  • Sobeys Card sales (var.)
  • Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper (Feb./March)
  • Glenlea Greenhouse orders (March)
